NY& SUBURBAN LUMBER ASSOCIATION MEMBERS: OPPOSE LIMITED WOOD CERTIFICATION LEGISLATION NRLA supports the use of green building standards, but opposes Intro 324 because it limits the type of certified wood that can be used for city-funded projects. LEED designates Forest Stewardship Council’s (FSC) certification program as the preferred program and excludes the use of other programs. NRLA supports the certification of forests for the purpose of creating sustainable forest management. However, additional certified wood programs should be included in the legislation in order to address the different forest types and to ensure adequate supply. Promoting green building standards through systems such as Green Globes, which encourage the use of a variety of certification programs, will result in the widespread use and application of sustainable forest management. Step 1: Locate your Council Member: A). Call Tracey Leach at the NRLA (800) 292-6752, or e-mail: tleach@nrla.org. Step 2:Fax or e-mail your Council Member: Copy the attached letter onto your letterhead and fax to your councilmember. To locate an electronic copy of this letter, go to www.nrla.org to cut and paste into an e-mail. |
