Act Now for Permanent Estate Tax Repeal
(NY)
Senate Majority Leader Frist
scheduled a vote on the permanent repeal of the Estate Tax for the week
of July 29. The purpose of the vote is to determine how close the Senate
is to gaining full support for the Estate Tax repeal. The results of the
vote will be used to either push for full Estate Tax repeal, or to negotiate
a deal which lowers the Estate Tax and exempts more estates from taxation.
The House of Representatives passed Estate Tax repeal legislation in April.

Dear Senators Clinton and Schumer:
I am writing to urge you to support the Death Tax Repeal Permanency Act
(H.R. 8) passed by the House of Representatives earlier this year.
The death tax is of grave concern to small businesses, which incur most
of the cost of the death tax even before the tax itself is levied, due
to the legal expenses of planning for the future tax burden. The death
tax is particularly damaging to building material suppliers due to the
asset-heavy nature of our industry, and greatly inhibits the ability of
family-owned businesses to survive and compete in the marketplace. Much
time and money is spent on Estate Tax planning, which could otherwise
be invested in growing the business and hiring additional employees. Congress
recognized the importance of repealing the death tax in 2001; but the
current repeal expires in 2011. It is important that the death tax be
repealed in its entirety as so-called “reforms” only
add to the difficulty building material suppliers face in planning for
the future of their companies.
I urge you to support making permanent this important protection for family-owned
businesses.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
