Updating Your Labor Law Posters
Question:
My Insurer’s Loss Prevention Officer recently conducted a safety audit of our work place and noticed outdated or missing Labor Law posters. Aren’t these posters supposed to be sent to me automatically when there are updates and revisions?
Answer:
State and federal government agencies do not automatically send new or revised posters directly to employers, but they are readily accessible to you. Employers are required by law to maintain a current set of both State and Federally-mandated posters in all your facilities and to display the posters in a conspicuous location where employees will readily see them. You can request posters through web sites or by calling toll free phone numbers. For official U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) posters, log onto www.dol.gov/osbp/sbrefa/poster/main.htm and download the required posters or call DOL’s Office of Small Business Programs at 1-888-9-SBREFA. Federal posters are provided in languages other than English and at NO cost to employers using this option, however, Adobe Acrobat is required.

While many of the Northeastern states provide electronic copies of their posters, some state agencies have chosen to control their distribution, which means the employer must personally contact the appropriate agency to obtain the poster.
While it remains the responsibility of the employer to obtain or revise Labor Law posters, the internet has streamlined the process. If you need personal assistance or have any questions, please contact the NRLA at 800.292.6752.
Firms specializing in regulatory document compliance will sell you the required Federal and State posters and provide any updates for a specific period of time for an additional fee. You may also buy the posters at an office supply store in your area such as Staples or Office Max.
