Custom Carpenter Relies on L.J. Smith Stair Systems
For more than a decade, when carpenter Scott Worthington needs to create a unique stair system, he knows he can depend on L.J. Smith® Stair Systems. So when the occasion came up to create a sleek stainless steel cable stairway for a top client, he again relied on L.J. Smith.
"We've been doing all the carpentry work for Summit Construction's homes for the past three years," says Worthington, president of Grovecreek Carpentry in Utah. "When the owner of the company was having his own home built and asked us to recommend a reliable cable rail system, we didn't hesitate to suggest L.J. Smith."
The contemporary Linear Collection used in the project includes Marine Grade stainless steel cable along with brushed stainless steel tube for a sleek stairway appearance. The L.J. Smith modern and code-compliant handrail options (available in Red Oak or Hard Maple) help create a clean, refined look for the stair system.
"We used the Hard Maple railing combined with eighth-inch cable and cable fittings for this main stairway in the home," says Worthington. "We needed a dependable stainless steel cable system for the rail. As far as I'm concerned, L.J. Smith has the best cable system on the market."
A specialist in custom carpentry, rail systems, cabinets, custom built-ins, ceiling beams and mantels, Grovecreek Carpentry did the majority of the carpentry work in the home of Summit Construction's president, Brady Jensen. "The cable rail definitely adds a modern look to all the homes I've installed the stair system in during the past couple years," says Worthington. "It's a versatile product. Depending on the type of wood and newels used, it can also have a colonial design feel."
Launched in 2016, the Linear stair system creates a show-stopping stairway appearance. L.J. Smith recently added metal newel posts to the product line. Each newel post is sized and pre-drilled for simple installation of the company's Marine Grade 316 stainless steel cable and cable fittings. Box treads are available to create a modern and open designed stairway. The company also offers newel mounting kits, and post protector tubes.
Started in 1885, L.J. Smith is the largest stair parts manufacturing company in the country. L.J. Smith products --- including wooden and ornamental iron balusters, stainless steel cable and tube infills, newel posts, hand rails and accessories --- are all defined by their unique designs, uncompromised durability and good looks.
