DuraLife™ Unveils New Exact Match Cortex® Plug System
New DuraLife Cortex Plug System Conceals Exposed Screw Heads to Create Beautiful, Seamless Deck Installations
DuraLife™ announced it is introducing its exact match DuraLife Cortex® Plug System. An excellent solution for installing deck boards, as well as seamless perimeter and stair treads, the DuraLife Cortex Plug System conceals exposed screw heads. Since the plugs are made of actual DuraLife boards, the color and wood grain match is exact, providing a continuous, uniform aesthetic. The DuraLife Cortex Plug System is now available through lumber yards and retailers.
“For contractors using a more traditional face-screw deck installation method, or for those who are looking to conceal screws in perimeter boards, our new DuraLife Cortex® Plug System is a perfect solution, making screw holes disappear for a clean, modern, sleek visual appearance,” said Jim Poulin, National Sales Manager, DuraLife™ Decking and Railing. “The plugs are made from our DuraLife deck boards, ensuring a perfect match to a customer’s selected decking.”
The DuraLife Cortex Plug System includes three-inch, coated carbon steel screws that can be directly installed into the joist; polypropylene composite plugs made from DuraLife decking that are color matched to the company’s eight colors (Golden Teak, Brazilian Cherry, Tropical Walnut Pebble Coastal Grey, Mahogany and Slate); and the necessary setting tools. Installation is a simple three-step process that includes drilling the hole, setting the screw, and then plugging the exposed screw hole. To ensure the plug is aligned perfectly with the deck board, simply tap the plug into the hole with a rubber mallet or hammer. In every box, there are 224 screws, 300 color-matched plugs, and two setting tools – enough to install 100 linear feet of decking. The DuraLife Cortex® Plug System is available for use with the company’s Starter and Siesta decking profiles.
DuraLife™ has a long history of product innovation including being an early adopter of polypropylene-based composite decking technology before composite decking was truly a trend. Innovation at DuraLife has always been driven by feedback from contractors and customers, inspiring the company to design and offer products that help solve problems and are easier to work with.
Most recently, DuraLife introduced Step-Clip™, a revolutionary hidden fastening system that works with all DuraLife grooved decking products. It offers a sleek design with no exposed screws (creating a seamless look). In addition to protecting the joists, Step-Clip actually spaces the boards evenly and automatically, creating a beautiful aesthetic. The boards easily snap into the clips nailed into the joists, making installation easier, faster (up to 50% faster), and more profitable for contractors.
