The kitchen is the hub of any home, and it sets the tone for the rest of the house. The way you design a kitchen will reflect on the overall design style of a home, which is why keeping up with the latest kitchen design trends is ideal.

Cabinets and countertops are key components in a kitchen, and 2019 has gorgeous trends set in store for them. From dark countertops and cabinets to bold patterns to matte surfaces, this year’s kitchen styles are sure to impress.

Here are the top kitchen cabinet and countertop trends for 2019:

Countertops

Dark countertops: Dark kitchens and countertops are all the buzz this year. They add a sophisticated touch to any kitchen, and they pair well with light flooring. The combination makes the space feel warm and elegant at the same time.

Mix and match: The combination of different materials is gaining in popularity in 2019. Designers are mixing materials such as stone countertops, glass shelving, and metal accents to create unique spaces. A mix-and-match kitchen is bold and fun when done right.

Concrete: Concrete countertops give an industrial look to any kitchen. Clients are requesting concrete more and more throughout their home—it’s a durable and low-maintenance material. Plus, it looks great when paired with wooden floors and accents.

Quartz: Although quartz has been a popular material for countertops for many years, its popularity will not wane in 2019. It’s an ideal choice for any kitchen, and the color and design options are endless. Quartz is beautiful, robust, and long-lasting, making it an ideal choice for any kitchen.

Bold patterns: If your client likes taking chances, opt for a bold countertop pattern that will be the focal point of the kitchen. You can even install a matching backsplash to really liven up the space and make a statement.

High-contrast surfaces: A high-contrast surface will offer visual interest in a room. It’s eye-catching, and it’s a trend that will be popular in 2019. Not all clients might be on board with high-contrast surfaces, but if they’re willing to take a chance, this type of countertop is worth a shot.

Waterfall kitchen islands: This type of island was popular in 2018, and it continues to be popular in 2019. Clients are looking for more streamlined looks, and offering them a waterfall kitchen island will give them what they want – symmetry, clean lines, and continuity.

Veiny countertops: The veinier, the better. Veiny countertops add character to kitchens, and they’re available in different materials such as quartz, marble, and granite (although the latter is not in these days).

Marble counters: Marble countertops are classic. They’ve been around for ages, and they will continue to be popular in the years to come. Marble adds a touch of luxury and sleekness to a space, and it can even be used for backsplashes if the client’s budget allows for it.

Cabinets

Contemporary: Contemporary kitchen cabinets tend to be minimalist and sleek. The 2019 cabinet color trends focus on soft, natural tones such as brown, taupe, cream, and pure white. Contemporary cabinets also tend to shy away from ornate carvings and adornments, and they even forego traditional handles.

Matte: Glossy is out, matte is in. Matte cabinets, especially dark ones, are making their mark this year. Matte finishes add a sophisticated touch to kitchens without drawing too much attention.

Two-toned: Offering your clients a kitchen design with just one color can be boring and too monotonous for their taste. Two-toned kitchen cabinets can add a nice contrast and stylish drama to the space. A popular trend in 2019 is installing light upper cabinets with dark lower cabinets to help make the space feel larger.

Shaker door style: This is the most timeless cabinet door style you can use. The simple, square-paneled design can be paired with any modern hardware. If your client has requested an industrial, contemporary, or country-style kitchen, the Shaker door style is a no-brainer.

Open shelving: Although a lot of people stay away from open kitchen shelving due to dust collection, it’s becoming a popular kitchen design style in 2019. Open shelving gives a very modern feel to any kitchen, and it allows people to display their dishware and other beautiful items for all to see.

Ample storage: Storage is most clients’ No. 1 priority. The more storage you offer, the better. Storage systems help keep kitchens organized and clutter-free. Built-in cabinet storage such as lazy Susans, pull-out racks, and pull-out pantry systems are in high-demand, so make sure to include them in your designs.

Glass doors: Glass doors add elegance and beauty to any modern kitchen. Glass cabinets also make a kitchen feel bigger, and much like open shelving, they allow people to display their favorite dishware. Using an x-lite mullion pattern with a framed cabinet door is a great way to enhance any cabinet project, combining functionality with stylish design.

Black and blue: Deep, rich colors such as black and navy blue are popular in many kitchen design styles, including contemporary, traditional, and galley kitchens. Combining black and blue cabinets with light countertops offers an impressive contrast, making the kitchen feel trendy and elegant.
